If you recall, the California State Assembly took advantage of the 9/11 tragedy in 2001 to pass a homosexual "domestic partnership" law when no one was looking. The vote on AB 25 took place during a flurry of legislative activity on September 12, 2001.

In the midst of Hurricane Katrina's devastation-which many fear will
probably lead to even greater loss of life than 9/11-the Sacramento
Politburo is at it again. Yesterday, by a margin of 21-15, the state Senate passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage. This despite overwhelming voter approval in 2000 of a referendum banning same-sex marriage. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has promised a veto.

This is not coincidence, but rather a pattern of legislative behavior.
California has an arrogant legislature that is completely out of touch with the state's needs, and which will gladly advance its social-left agenda by any means necessary-even this.
