The Center for Reclaiming America, a group founded by Dr. D. James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Ministries, committed $40,000 to buy TV and radio ads taking Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R.-Tenn.) to task for flip-flopping on federal funding for stem-cell research that kills human embryos. The day before the Senate took its summer recess, Frist made the surprise announcement that he would support legislation overturning President Bush’s ban on providing tax dollars for embryo-killing research.

The TV ad features the image of a baby and provides the number for the Senate switchboard: (202) 224-3121. It says: “Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist supports public funding for research that actually destroys human life. … Tell Sen. Frist to stand with President Bush and oppose research that destroys human embryos.” The TV and radio ads are running only in the Des Moines, Iowa, market. Frist is planning to run for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination—in a race that will begin with the Iowa caucuses.
