"We have been very impressed by his qualifications," Focus on the Family's James Dobson told reporters. "They are impeccable, and his character, I think this is a man we can get very excited about. To my knowledge, Judge Roberts has never talked about abortion, and he certainly has issued no rulings about it, so we do not know what his private views are there. But we do know that he is what is called an originalist, what Justice Scalia called an originalist, who will interpret the Constitution as written and not dream it up, dream up his decisions according to some preconceived ideology. We believe the issues we care about will be handled carefully by this judge who appears not to be a judicial activist."
