The Globe??¢â???¬â???¢s reporting did reveal one reason Kerry might not have wanted his Navy records released during the campaign: They document his dismal academic record at Yale. Kerry, it turns out, did even worse at Yale than President Bush. He got four Ds in his freshman year??¢â???¬ ¦quot;one of them in what appears to be a rocks-for-jocks-type geology class. (Maybe this was where Kerry learned what he knows about developing energy sources.)
Kerry, who arrogantly acted like the intellectually superior candidate in the campaign, ended up with a 76% four-year average. That was one point lower than the 77% average that Bush maintained in his first three years at Yale (before they changed the grading system his senior year). Kerry, showing an early talent for equivocation, told the Globe: ??¢â???¬?????I always told my dad that D stood for distinction.??¢â???¬
