Coulter Nails Gist Of Democratic Defeat

Great piece by Ann! ["Democratic Party: The Gift That Keeps on Giving!," HUMAN EVENTS, November 18, page 6.] If the Democrats follow Ann’s advice they can even expect to get the non-union junkyard dog vote.

-Merle Steele, Las Vegas, Nev.

You forgot Al! Al Gore must campaign not for each candidate, but alongside each candidate, telling over and over and over how he ‘wuz robbed’ in Florida.

Seriously, one of the saddest, most selfish performances by a politician in the history of political campaigning in America was Al Gore’s appearance with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.

Thank the Lord He kept Al Gore from the presidency!

-Joseph Revell, Pensacola, Fla.

Loved it! I like the new approach of whipping them, hard, with their own noodles.

As a longtime conservative, I’m a huge Coulter and Reagan, Bush II fan.

Keep on keeping up the great work!

-Steve Loud, Solana Beach, Calif.

Your article was so beautiful, I wept when I read it. A work of art! Keep up the great work.

‘Winning at All Costs’ Loses in Recent Elections

What comes around goes around, ["Bush Delivers Knock-Out Punch," HUMAN EVENTS, November 11, page 1]. That saying appears to be most appropriate as we view this historic mid-term election.

As one who watched with excitement as state after state recorded a victory for the GOP, I found myself thinking in terms of the fairness element.

After considering: The unseemly, continual questioning of the legitimacy of our nation’s President, unprecedented judgeship vacancies, unfinished senatorial priority business, Jim Jeffords Jump, New Jersey Shuffle, and the Wellstone Rally, American citizens looked on with disgust as the "winning at all cost" mantra appeared to be what moved one party.

Today it is apparent that obstructionism for the sake of obstructionism has no place in our body politics. Thankfully, this election reinforced my faith in the American people and their requirement that fairness being displayed. The notion that "winning at all cost" must end.

-Shelley Aamodt, Menomonie, Wis.

God has indeed given America one more chance.

Now that Bush has a mandate, I think it is high time we put God back in the schools and courts. I’m sure that like myself, thousands of other Americans prayed to God that he help us to restore America to what she once was: One nation under God.

If we fail this last chance test, I fear what ills will fall on our great nation. She is the last best hope for mankind.

-Jim Lawrence, Cape Cod, Mass.

Thanks for this wonderful assessment of the President, and the left. Keep up the good work!

-Beverly Dargo, Turner, Ore.

Opposes Corporate ‘Globalist’ War

Where does the right get off in supporting ["New Global Warming Threat: Hot Air on Iraq," HUMAN EVENTS, October 14, page 6] some corporate globalist war? Pimply-faced brats listening to rap CDs and their fellow infantrywomen marching triumphantly into Baghdad while carrying their Evian bottles.

Those are the red-blooded American males, Coulter so longs for. They can skateboard and ride bikes and get tattoos, but fight? Remember the whining after the Gulf War. We are not a soldier nation. Never were except under the absolute dictatorship of Douglas Macarthur. Shame on you!

-Marshall Bell, Los Angeles, Calif.

Cox Right to Fight Clinton’s Legacy

Thank you Rep. Chris Cox (R.-Calif.) for your attempts to clean up the Augean stables Bill Clinton left as his legacy ["End Clinton’s Aid to North Korea," HUMAN EVENTS, October 28, page 1]. Please keep working hard. The actions of the Clinton Administration can best be explained as sheer treason. I want him brought to account.

-Tamzin Rosenwasser, Venice, Fla.

Stonewall Daschle Takes Partisan Prize

The most astonishing example of dishonest political partisanship is Tom Daschle’s stonewalling ["Daschle’s Democrats Did Only Harm," HUMAN EVENTS, October 21, page 1] to delay the Senate from voting on the creation of a Department of Homeland Security. For those who don’t remember, the Department of Homeland Security was a direct response to the terrorists’ attack on America Sept. 11, 2001, in which over 3,000 Americans were killed.

In addition to the tragic loss of lives, that one act of terrorism cost the United States economy over a trillion dollars in lost jobs, property, beefed-up security, insurance costs, litigation, not to mention plummeting retirement plans as a result of stock market losses.

Shortly after that tragic day, our leaders came together in a display of unity to fight terrorism and protect the United States from similar attacks. Since that fatal day, we have learned that had the numerous agencies responsible for the security of this nation (FBI, CIA, and local law enforcement) communicated, some of the terrorists may have been detected, and that catastrophic event may have been averted.

Why would Sen. Daschle play Russian roulette with American lives? Since public-employee unions finance Democratic candidates, Daschle understood they needed that money for several close Senate races. Otherwise he may lose leadership of the Senate. Never mind that our nation is in danger, and that there may be more terrorists in the United States right now who are planning their next attack.

The most critical constitutional duty of our elected leaders is to "provide for the common defense," namely to protect us from those who want to do us harm. What occurred on 9/11 should have been a wake-up call to alert us that we are not safe, and that America is in danger of future disasters.

By stonewalling this new coordinated agency whose mission is to protect us from future disasters, Mr. Daschle clearly put the money and votes of his union supporters ahead of his constitutional duty, not to mention the lives and well-being of every American.

Tell Stonewall Daschle that our national security is serious business, and that the lives of every American take precedent over payback for campaign contributions.
