Walter Mondale The Nightmare Years
I remember Mondale ["Mondale: Hoary Leftist Rides Again," HUMAN EVENTS, November 4, page 1]. The team of Jimmy Carter and Mondale brought us double-digit interest rates and brought our economy to a near collapse. Interest for home purchases was 18%. Americans were held hostage in Iran. Mondale was useless back then, and, as Minnesotans apparently decided, is so today!

Understanding the North Korean Threat
Thanks for clarifying the latest developments in the ongoing foreign policy issue with North Korea ["End Clintons Aid to North Korea" by Rep. Chris Cox, HUMAN EVENTS, October 28, page 1]. I could not agree more and it was a pleasure to read the thoughts of an elected representative on a matter of such importance to our national security.

Mr. Coxs article is succinct and to the point. Why isnt there a general outcry from other Republicans? We need a "truth squad" to quash the continuing flood of Clinton lies in his efforts to rewrite history.

Sununu Deserved Conservative Support
I totally agree with Mr. Jeffrey, ["Conservatives Must Support John Sununu," HUMAN EVENTS, October 28, page 4] and wish Sen. Bob Smith had campaigned with Mr. Sununu for the many things at stake. The most important being putting conservative judges on our courts. Congratulations to Mr. Jeffrey for his excellent analysis.

Minnesota Reader On Wellstone Legacy
This is in response to the widespread media glorification of Sen. Paul Wellstone ["They Came Not To Bury Wellstone," HUMAN EVENTS, November 4, page 6].
Champion of the Great Unwashed, Paul was a nice guy personally and his death was tragic as are most deaths, but he was an embarrassing demagogue politically. Together with his ideological hero, Hubert Horatio Humphrey, he helped justify Minnesotas title, "Land of Loons."
In pursuit of his socialist/welfare agenda, he would have driven the U.S. even further into debt.
Ever the politically correct politician, he was blind to Iraqs actual and potential sponsorship of terrorism-an imminent danger. Why is it that portside pacifists are so eager to commit suicide? (Wouldnt it be ironic if one of his pilots just happened to be a suicidal anti-Jewish zealot, ?? la 9/11. The strange circumstances certainly fit that scenario. I say that as a former pilot.)
That he had a slight edge in polls over Norm Coleman, or had any following whatsoever, is a sad commentary on the average Minnesota intelligence.

New Globalists
Old Socialists
In Daniel Pipes review of John Fontes article in Orbis magazine ["The Rise of Bureaucratic Leftism," HUMAN EVENTS, September 30, page 19], which concerns the "dangerous end-run around American democracy via the United Nations and other international institutions" by these leftists, he shouldnt hide what they are.
Call these individuals, groups, organizations what they are-socialists! Pure socialists who want socialisms failed ways to dominate societies.
Our liberals of today are socialists, part of the Bureaucratic Leftism of the article.
