GOP’s Minority Voter Outreach Applauded As a "Hispanic Republican" I can only applaud the ads targeting minority voters, ["Conservative Ads Reach Out to Blacks and Hispanics," HUMAN EVENTS, October 21, page 5]. It is about time blacks and Hispanics knew the truth. Democrats seem to be the ones whose idea of helping the poor and disadvantaged is to provide them access to abortion and contraception. Aborting them out of existence is not my idea of help. Survivors who continue to bear children are "helped" by trapping them in a welfare dependent cycle that robs them of the will to overcome difficulties, and their dignity as human beings. The only thing I can trust most Democrats to do is to tax me from birth to grave and, if they could, beyond that. (Oops, I think they do that too!) I can also trust them to hamstring businesses with draconian regulations and laws that choke to death the free enterprise system that has provided all of us with the best standard of living, bar none. I can also trust them to open our country to foreign attacks by weakening our military, mocking those brave men and women who have given their very lives to protect the very people who do not merit their loyalty and sacrifice. I wish to praise all of you at HUMAN EVENTS for reporting not what we want to hear, but what we need to know.

—Gilberto R. Lopez, Fairfax, Calif.

A Nobel Recipient And National Disgrace Jimmeh Cahta was a sorry choice for President ["Jimmy Carter’s Ignoble Prize," HUMAN EVENTS, October 21, page 1], and the country has paid a great price for his feckless leadership. He is a constant embarrassment to this country with his global gallivanting to insure "fair elections," as though he were some sort of conscience of the world. His perorations about diplomacy—not force of arms against rogue nations—is continuing evidence that he ought to be confined to the boundaries of his peanut farm.

—Wayne B. Williamson, Peoria, Ariz.

Open Up Docks To Competition It sounds like we need some competition in this [longshoreman] industry, ["Despite Pause, West Coast Dock Dispute Far From Over," HUMAN EVENTS, October 21, page 5]. Perhaps if another competing company could hire new employees, upgrade the technology, lower the cost of operations, and possibly avoid the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union (ILWU), we could all benefit from lower costs, better service, no strikes, and less greed.

Reject UN Agenda For Perpetual War It is sad to watch as HUMAN EVENTS continues to beat the drums of war and carry the water for the Eastern Establishment. Your lead article ["Will Democrats Put UN Over U.S.?" HUMAN EVENTS, September 23, page 1] describes Harry Truman’s little party at the Blair House to celebrate his decision to circumvent Congress and to go to war in Korea under the authority of the UN. What this article failed to mention is that George W. Bush has surrounded himself with the same type of Blair House advisors. The Blair House is the headquarters of the Council on Foreign Relations and their members have been dictating our interventionist foreign policy since the days of F.D.R. They have one goal in mind—global government. In order to achieve this, the U.S. has to be perpetually at war. What really raised my hackles was Mr. Jeffrey’s description of W’s UN speech as an "America First position." A real America Firster would only go to the UN to serve them with notice of the U.S. withdrawal from its membership and to give them an eviction notice. W’s speech was all huff and bluster. In the end he’ll do as the internationalists tell him. A true America First policy would not have us constantly meddling in other countries’ affairs. The Gulf War would never have been started and we would be buying our oil from a slightly larger Iraq. Our relations with the Arab world would be friendly, since we would stay out of their affairs. Mr. Jeffrey might want to consider going back to work for Pat Buchanan and finishing his America First apprenticeship.

—Patrick Sellers, Coatesville, Pa.

Both Clintons Never Admit Being at Fault In reference to the "Hillary Watch" item earlier this month ["Olympic Meddling," Hillary Watch, HUMAN EVENTS, October 7, page 15], both Hillary and Bill are of that peculiar brand of people who are never at fault for anything they do. We have all known people like them. They drive everyone nuts and have very few real friends as a result. The problem, however, does not lie with their self-righteous leftist lunacy, the problem lies with the American public, who, being ignorant of factual reality, desire to be blindly led by celebrities.

—Patrick Weir, Chatsworth, Calif.

Although I appreciate your keeping us abreast of Hillary Clinton’s foolish attempts to act like a United States senator, I truly believe that the "Hillary Watch" column plays into the fear factor of politics and gives her unneeded publicity for her run for President. I would much rather have a "Democratic Watch" column that might include the stupid things that Hillary says and does.

—Kenneth D. Johnson, Troy, Mich.

Illegal Voting No Real Shocker Why am I not shocked ["California Prop 52 Would Facilitate Illegal Voting," HUMAN EVENTS, October 14, page 7] at the intent of Prop 52 in California? As I’ve said thousands of times, Democrats will do anything to win. I sincerely believe Clinton cheated, Gore definitely cheated, most Democrats do cheat. Just listening to their insane view of the world reveals their "ideals"—the very things that are destroying this great country. Look at California and the East Coast, full of whackos, illegal immigrants, liberals, liars, cheaters, and the list goes on.

—Jill Lawless, Canyon Lake, Tex.

You wrote a very good article on Prop 52 and its dangers. There is one more that concerns me about same day registration in all states where it is being tried. It tends to remove potential power of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. That 1965 act made vote fraud a federal as well as a state crime by making it unlawful to "conspire to dilute the votes of legal voters." The same day registration states can dumb down the definition of what a legal voter is to the point that federal prosecutors would no longer be able to effectively use that portion of the Voting Rights Act to go after fraud.
