The Trump administration asked Israel on Monday to stop further strikes on Iranian energy and oil facilities, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions. Washington delivered the message both to senior Israeli political leaders and to Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, three sources told Axios.

One Israeli official confirmed that “the US asked that we notify them in advance of any future strikes on oil facilities in Iran."

The request marks the first time the White House has openly sought to restrain Israeli military actions since the two allies began joint operations against Iran about ten days ago.

Israeli bombardments on Iranian fuel depots over the weekend blanketed Tehran in thick black smoke and triggered reports of acid rain, prompting health warnings from local officials.

A US source familiar with the matter said Trump’s team cited three main concerns in urging restraint. First, such strikes risk harming ordinary Iranians, many of whom oppose the regime. Second, Trump reportedly wants to preserve the possibility of cooperating with Iran’s oil sector after the conflict. Third, officials fear renewed attacks on energy infrastructure across the Gulf could follow if Tehran retaliates.
