The terror group made the call, claiming that it was in response to Israel closing the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. “In the face of the tragedy of the closure of the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque, it is incumbent upon Muslims everywhere—those who yearn to come to the aid of the site of their Prophet’s Night Journey—to rise up and set fire to the Jewish synagogues scattered across America, Europe, Russia, India, and elsewhere,” ISIS declared in its propaganda outlet al-Naba.
“The same applies to the synagogues in Tunisia, Morocco, the UAE, and Syria; their locations are well-known, and their details have been published,” ISIS added, per the New York Post. The terror group called for similar attacks on churches as well as "Jewish gatherings" internationally.
They called on terror sympathizers to “emulate the actions of the ‘Sydney Heroes,'” a reference to the 2025 Hanukkah terror attacks that left 15 people dead when two gunmen started shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. One of the gunmen was killed in the incident and 40 other people were wounded.
ISIS also claimed to have carried out "15 operations" over the past week that the terror group said led to 60 casualties.
Israel closed the al-Aqsa mosque in late February as the war with Iran started, citing the "security situation." Authorities in Jerusalem have also banned large gatherings at religious sites such as the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem as the war has dragged on.
