Despite widespread vaccine distribution across America, the CDC is encouraging yet another holiday season filled with virtual celebrations and outdoor gatherings.

Apparently, the best way to spread holiday cheer is staying far away from your family, instead of near.

“Attending gatherings to celebrate events and holidays increases your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19,” the updated guidance reads, per Fox News. “The safest way to celebrate is virtually, with people who live with you, or outside and at least 6 feet apart from others.”

The CDC recommends celebrating via video chat with family and friends, watching virtual events and driving around the community to wave at neighbors from afar.

For those leaning towards hosting outdoor gatherings, the CDC issued recommendations for a safer holiday, including vaccinations for all those who have yet to get vaccinated, enforcing mask wearing, opening doors and windows to increase air flow and to “have conversations ahead of time to understand expectations for celebrating together.”
