President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that amid “productive discussions with Iran,” the US will not be launching any attacks on Iran in the lead op to November 3rd’s midterm elections.
“We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran. I want to make it clear to everybody that, while Iran is in very bad condition, both Economically and Militarily, and while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, with Oil flowing in Record Numbers of Barrels through the Hormuz Straight (22 Million Barrels, last night alone, with not one barrel coming from, or going to, Iran!), we will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd. IRAN WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”
This comes after Trump said in September that the war with Iran would be over after the elections. Trump, in response to a reporter who asked when the war would end, “I think very soon, I think it’ll be right after the midterms, actually. I would say shortly, and oil will come tumbling down when that happens.”
This comes amid a closely watched midterm election season, in which Republicans are fighting to keep control of the House and Senate in Trump's final two years in office.
The latest poll from the Economist/YouGov found that 37 percent of Americans say inflation and prices are the most important issues they are facing, with jobs and the economy at 12 percent. The war with Iran has seen volatile gas prices, with AAA’s National Average as of October 8 being 4.36 per gallon of gasoline, and $6.28 per gallon of diesel. While gas is still short of the highest recorded average price of 5.01 per gallon, diesel hit its record high on September 22, 2026, at $6.52 per gallon.
