The nationalist women raised a banner calling the far-left group "Islamo-leftists." Antifa militants confronted them and Quentin, who was providing security for the nationalist women's activists, was "ambushed and severely beaten by far-left militants. He suffered a critical brain hemorrhage and was placed in a coma at the hospital," The European Conservative reported.
Quentin was attacked while trying to protect the Collectif Némésis. The group posted a statement reading "Last night, our Lyon-based activists staged a happening in front of a conference led by Rima Hassan at the Institut d'Études Politiques de Lyon. "Our activists, five in number, were assaulted on the outskirts of the meeting. Not far from them, around fifteen activists were present to ensure their security. These men were unable to assist them because, at the same time, they were chased by a group of about thirty anti-fascists.
"One of them, Quentin, 23, was attacked with extreme violence. The anti-fascists knocked him to the ground and beat him, leaving him for dead in the street.
"Quentin was swept to the ground, his head struck the pavement, and he was then lynched with kicks. His attackers were hooded and armed with reinforced gloves and pepper spray, leaving little doubt as to the premeditated nature of their attack.
"Quentin was taken to Hôpital Edouard-Herriot following his injuries, unconscious. He was suffering from multiple brain lesions. He was then placed in an induced coma, in a state of brain death. Last rites were administered to him by a priest.
"Our activists recognized among the attackers a man named Jacques Elie Favrot, an associate of La France insoumise MP Raphael Arnaud and an active member of Jeune Garde."
Le Figaro's Paul Sugy reported "Quentin D. is a 23-year-old student from Lyon, studying finance and mathematics. He converted to Catholicism a few years ago and attends the Mass of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. Those close to him describe him as a pious young man.
"He led his family onto the path of faith after his own conversion. He is also a nationalist activist, and like other activists, he was contacted by the Némésis collective to provide security for a happening last night near the IEP of Lyon, where Rima Hassan was giving a conference. There were about fifteen of them.
"The Némésis girls suffered an initial assault, then the activists left the scene and were attacked in nearby streets and followed by several dozen antifas. During this chase, Quentin received a leg sweep, smashed his skull against the ground, then was lynched with kicks. This attack caused him numerous brain injuries. He got back up with a friend and continued on his way home. Then he lost consciousness upon arriving at quai Fulchiron near Vieux Lyon: at that moment, his comrade, himself slightly injured, called emergency services. State services confirm that the young man, unconscious, was taken into care around 7:40 p.m.
"Quentin was hospitalized at Edouard Herriot hospital, he is in a coma and suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage. His loved ones have little hope. This morning, Father Grenier administered the last rites to him."
Philosophy professor Fx Bellamy wrote "Because he was protecting young female activists who had come to peacefully demonstrate in parallel with an appearance by Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon, a 23-year-old man was assaulted, brutally beaten while on the ground, and is now fighting for his life, hospitalized in absolute emergency."
"Can we even imagine for a second the reaction in this country if a left-wing activist were beaten to death on the sidelines of a right-wing elected official’s conference?" He added. "Would the same silence be tolerated? Are there politically authorized crimes in France? Is it now accepted that Quentin can die in complete indifference? Every political figure who cares about the essentials must state it clearly today: the far left is the existential threat to our democracy. Wholeheartedly with Quentin, his family, his friends, and with the activists of the Némésis collective, in this moment of trial and immense anxiety."
European conservative Eva Vlardingerbroek asked "What are you waiting for Emmanuel Macron? Prosecute them all! How many young French people have to be killed like dogs before you declare Antifa a terrorist organization? ACT! For heaven’s sake!"
