“It’s the AG, the Attorney General of Minnesota, Keith Ellison,” Hawley said, later adding, “he should be prosecuting bad guys, and instead, he had the Somali crime ring into his own office.”
Hawley alleged Ellison accepted $10,000 in campaign donations from individuals tied to the fraud scheme and then sought to ease investigative pressure. “He took $10,000 in donations from these people, and in return, he asked his staff to get the investigators off their backs. I mean, it’s unbelievable,” Hawley said.
The Missouri senator added, “It's unbelievable. He should be in jail." Recounting his experience in the hearing, Hawley said he told Ellison, "You should be indicted for this. He ought to be in prison for this.”
Host Jack Posobiec pressed Hawley on the federal funding component of the case, noting that money allegedly flowed through Feeding Our Future, the massive fraud operation involving funds meant for low-income children.
“These were federal funds that flowed through the fraud,” Posobiec said. “The person who’s supposed to be looking out for the people of Minnesota… was not only overlooking this, he was benefiting from it.”
Hawley claimed there is recorded evidence of Ellison meeting with individuals later charged in the scheme. “They recorded it, 54 minutes of live tape. It’s on the internet. Anybody can listen to it. I’ve listened to it,” Hawley said. “Over and over and over again, they offer him campaign cash if he will intervene and get the investigators off of their backs.”
He continued, “Just days after he meets with these people, $10,000 he takes personally. They also made a contribution to his son. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up.”
Hawley questioned why Ellison has not faced charges. “I can’t imagine why he has not been indicted. He should be indicted federally and tried and go to prison,” he said.
“You want to know why we have so much fraud in America and why there’s so much fraud in Minnesota?” Hawley added. “That’s the reason.”
