It’s a shame that the NFL, which hosts the Super Bowl, the biggest event for America, continues to trash our country so badly that conservative powerhouse Turning Point USA was compelled to produce a second halftime show. It’s a testament to how divided we are as a country. Bad Bunny’s performance didn’t live up to the negative hype, but half of America knows he hates them, and that’s enough to turn them away.
For years, it has been obvious that the NFL doesn’t care about its conservative viewers. With its virtue signaling “end racism” goal posts, its support of Colin Kaepernick’s anti-American antics, Pride celebrations, the black national anthem, and its open support of the Marxist organization BLM, conservatives are tired of the NFL sticking up its middle finger to their values. When the news of “queer ally” Bad Bunny was announced as the halftime show performer, conservatives were up in arms. Turning Point USA decided not to complain. Instead, TPUSA decided to create a cool, all-American show that they knew conservatives would enjoy.
The Turning Point USA livestream drew quite a crowd with over 5 million concurrent views on YouTube alone. We all know that Turning Point has a fraction of the manpower and budget compared to the NFL, but they pulled off a great rock concert spectacle. My favorite part was the initial guitar solo in The Star-Spangled Banner. It gave me the chills.
I gotta be honest, I was prepared to hate Bad Bunny’s halftime show. He is well known as a “queer ally”. As someone outspoken about the harms of the LGBTQ+ lobby, I’m personally not a fan. Also, our country is English-speaking, and the Super Bowl is an all-American event, so I think its halftime show should be in English.
Nevertheless, I found the Bad Bunny performance to be entertaining, and even wholesome in parts. It had good sets, fun dancing, and good production. I particularly enjoyed the wedding scene where children and family were celebrated. Bad Bunny’s show showcased Puerto Rican life, something he obviously takes pride in. I don’t have a problem with that. Before we all became so divided over identity, we used to enjoy honoring each other’s culture without strife.
Meanwhile, Turning Point’s show was excellent. It proudly highlighted Americana, rock n' roll, and faith. The music was nothing short of awesome, and the lights and production were a spectacle. One could not help watching that show without feeling great pride to be an American.
In the end, Bad Bunny put on a relatively non-provocative show for the Super Bowl halftime. However, we can’t forget that he is known for publicly burning the American flag and wearing a dress in the name of queerness.
Plus, the NFL chose the progressive band Green Day as the opening act. Leading up to the Super Bowl, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong proudly said publicly, “To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are, quit your shitty-ass job. Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad fucking habit. Come on this side of the line.” He knew he was alienating half the country, but he didn’t care.
In addition, self-described LGBTQ+ activist Brandi Carlile was chosen to sing "America the Beautiful." When asked about singing for the Super Bowl, she said “The through line to being queer and being a representative of a marginalized community, and being put on the largest stage in America to acknowledge the fraught and tender hope that this country is based on, it's something you don't say no to.” Impressively, despite her opportunity to sing for the prestigious Super Bowl, she still managed to play victim.
Regular Americans are tired of these antics and have had enough. They want wholesome entertainment that doesn’t feature artists who trash their country and values. Turning Point USA stepped up and delivered.
