The protest coordination comes after Minneapolis officials offered their own message for ICE agents working to rid their city of illegal immigrant criminals. Mayor Jacob Frey told Immigration and Customs Enforcement to "get the f*ck out of Minneapolis" while Governor Tim Walz said he'd put the Minnesota National Guard on warning and urged ICE agents to leave the state.
Reporting from Minneapolis, Kevin Posobiec revealed the depth and scope of the organizing behind the Weekend of Action.
The "goals" for the "Weekend of Action" include "Honor and humanize the lives taken by ICE, Demand accountability, transparency, and immediate investigation into the killing of Renee Nicole Good, Expose the broader pattern of ICE violence–including the 30+ lives lost in ICE detention in 2025, Call for ICE to leave our communities, Build public pressure on elected officials and federal agencies, Create space for grief, solidarity, and collective action" and "Strengthen local connections and neighborhood response systems."
Minneapolis is a sanctuary city in the sanctuary state of Minnesota, meaning that local law enforcement officers are prohibited from working with federal agents or notifying ICE agents when a criminal illegal immigrant is in custody. This results in ICE having to go out into the city to find those criminals who must be apprehended and deported.
The "Weekend of Action" organizing documents also provide information to help activists create their own protest, such as the one Renee Nicole Good was participating in when she blocked the road with her car, impeded ICE actions, and law her life. They offer a list of "sample events," including public vigils and memorials, silent marches, processions, or funeral car caravans, "visual actions and installations," and "faith-based witness and moral actions," which would be in conjunction with a religious or church group.
There are already many events planned across the country. The organizational structure is based on activist non-profit group Indivisible's No Kings protests, which were set up to take place in towns and cities large and small across the country.
