DAVID KRAYDEN: Trump isn't perfect but just imagine the alternative

As we approach the first anniversary of President Donald Trump’s second administration it is worth noting that there is some degree of unease brewing among the MAGA base. This isn’t exactly buyer remorse but presidencies can be destroyed by indifference or half-hearted support as much as they can be vociferous opposition.

Trump voters need to ask themselves two questions if they have find their support of the president in even modest decline: “Is America better off in 2026 than it was at the beginning of 2025?” And secondly, “What would America be like if former Vice President Kamala Harris had won the 2024 presidential election.”

The first of these questions is the easiest to answer. If the only thing that Trump had achieved in the last year was to seal off the southern border and begin a realistic immigration policy, then that would be enough to celebrate. It is perhaps too easy to forget the chaos that former President Joe Biden promulgated at the border as literally millions of illegals walked across the border and hundreds of thousands of children were brought into the US to be trafficked in the sex trade. Ending this mess was easily one of the greatest exercises in national security and morality in American history. Sometimes when a problem is eradicated it is difficult to remember just how bad the problem was. America was at a the cross-roads of its being and came very close to being destroyed through the deliberate neglect of a Democratic administration that seemed bent on collective suicide.

To the detractors who say Trump has not ended the war in Ukraine, he is continuing to work on a peace plan that could save hundreds of thousands of lives. The Biden administration showed no interest in ending the war but in maintaining a stalemate that only continued to result in massive fatalities that were reminiscent of the military losses in the First World War. Trump has also moved towards peace in the Middle East with a brokered ceasefire that has greatly reduced the deaths of civilians in Gaza. Let us not believe for a second that military intervention in Venezuela is anything more than a police action to arrest drug smuggling. This is not going to be another Afghanistan. The dynamics simply do not exist for the scenario to unfold.

Perhaps Trump’s greatest service to America has been his dogged determination to defend sanity by opposing the imposition of Diversity Equity and Inclusion propaganda in government and the corporations. It is literally a “priceless” contribution to the American psyche and if children are saved from the grasp of those advocating “gender-affirming care” because Trump has stood against this mutilation, it is a part of his legacy that should never be undervalued or forgotten. Similarly, Trump has advocated for women by insisting that there are only two sexes and that biological men should not be competing against biological women in sports.

Now, to the second question, perhaps more difficult to quantify but all the more terrifying in its scope. If you need any assurance that Trump is leading America in the right direction, just listen to one of Kamala Harris’ meandering, listless, uncoordinated and toxic speeches that seemed to be the product of a woke committee that was intent upon placing as many mendacious euphemisms and pointless phrases into America’s political discourse. It was never exactly clear what Harris was trying to say except that it was something entirely antithetical to the foundational freedoms that have always defined the United States.

America may not have survived a Harris presidency, especially after four incredibly surreal years of Biden, who was clearly not governing as president because he was incapable of doing the job.

So if there are occasional mummerings about Trump not fulfilling every promise in the first 11 months of his presidency, just trying to imagine the cacophony of complaints if Harris were sitting in the Oval Office.

The left loves to see conservatives divided and nothing has succeeded in doing that more than the daily debate on social media after the death of Charlie Kirk. It is fine to seek the truth and demand answers to perplexing questions but debate over who is ultimately responsible for this crime cannot be allowed to define the conservative movement and what is ultimately really important. Government must believe in individual freedom and economic prosperity, not advocate for a politically correct collectivism that will ultimately be fatal for liberty in America.

Remember what is really important.
