In the wake of Kirk’s death, every social media platform and mainstream outlet worked in overdrive to smear Charlie Kirk’s legacy and take so many of his ideas out of context to paint him as an evil, racist Nazi. However, today the Right is putting politics aside and is acknowledging Reiner’s humanity and artistic contributions.
Outspoken conservative Robby Starbuck wrote, “What happened last night to Rob Reiner and his wife was a savage butchering of two human lives. I don’t care what their politics were or how they felt about Trump; no law-abiding human deserves this. We should pray for [and] send condolences to his loved ones and NOT make it political.”
Bret Weinstein, a former Evergreen University professor who was cancelled for challenging leftist ideas and has become a prominent voice for conservatives, stated, “Notice that the American Right is NOT celebrating Rob Reiner’s murder. I see post after post honoring his remarkable contribution to our culture despite his strident embrace of progressive lunacy in his later years. This is America displaying our common humanity. May his memory and his remarkable body of work be a blessing to us all.”
Conservative commentator and friend of Charlie Kirk, Jack Posobiec, said something similar, “You won’t see people on the Right celebrating the horrific murder of Rob Reiner and his wife. Compare to the Left’s reaction to Charlie Kirk’s murder.”
Even President Donald Trump, with whom Reiner had a longtime feud and called him a "fascist", called the tragedy "very sad" on Truth Social and wished that the couple rest in peace, while acknowledging the longstanding, disgruntled relationship the two had.
They are all right, the contrast is stark. Let’s not forget how the Left celebrated the public assassination of Charlie Kirk, an innocent young father of two. Without shame, so many openly cheered. It was so extreme and shocking that a lot of us wanted to forget.
Remember that teacher who gestured a shooting in her neck? Remember the people who came out in bloody Halloween costumes dressed like Kirk and thought it was funny? Remember all of those people at the “No Kings” rallies saying how Charlie Kirk deserved to die? These incidents were more common than we want to admit, and the people who perpetrated them showed no shame for their behavior.
That shows a remarkable difference. The American Right has not lost its ability to see the humanity in a person with opposing political beliefs. We may disagree. We often believe the Left’s ideas are horrible. Nevertheless, we don’t think an innocent person deserves to die. We haven’t been conditioned to see our friends, neighbors, and family members as Nazi’s, as the American Left has.
It is apparent that the American Right as a whole shows grace, care, and humanity. They hold their beliefs because they believe it’s best for all, including those with different political opinions. In fact, Charlie Kirk was so passionate about speaking out because he cared so much about those angry, lost young leftists.
Kirk hoped the indoctrinated college students who had gone missing could see another point of view, so they could shed the hate they had been conditioned to feel. Charlie Kirk died because he believed so passionately that he could reach the lost, angry souls who were corrupted by leftist ideas. And he was able to get many.
When you look at the contrast between the reaction to the murder of Rob Reiner and Charlie Kirk, we don’t need another example to see clearly that it is the Right that maintains its humanity, while the Left has been taught to hate and dehumanize anyone who disagrees with them.
