The outlet, citing US officials familiar with the matter, said that the move is set to bring attention to the Abraham Accords as the Trump administration is working to negotiate between Israel and the Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East.
"This is going to show that the Abraham Accords is a club that many countries want to be a member of and it will be a step for turning the page on the war in Gaza and moving forward towards more peace and cooperation in the region," the US official told reporters.
Kazakhstan and Israel have had full diplomatic relations for multiple decades at this point, but the country had not previously joined the deal and there is no history of conflict between the two nations. However, the move may encourage other nations in the Middle East to follow suit, joining in the Abraham Accords as Trump has taken steps to pressure Saudi Arabia and others to join the agreement.
Bringing Saudi Arabia or Syria into the Abraham Accords would be a much larger priority and has been a stated goal for the president. Tokayev is visiting the White House as part of a summit with the leaders in the US as well as five Central Asian countries, all of which have a majority of Muslim citizens.
The actions come after Trump was able to secure the release of the Israeli hostages from Hamas.
