President Donald Trump said that the US is carrying out strikes against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz in the country's "failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait."

The strikes come on the heels of strikes that took place over the weekend between the US and Iran.

"The United States is, as we speak, striking Iranian Targets near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait, which currently has no mines (They have been completely removed or detonated!), and the Iranians shooting eight missiles, all successfully knocked down, at our Military Base in Jordan. If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!" Trump wrote.

Over the weekend and into Monday, the conflict reignited after the US hit launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a key shipping point for the Iranian regime. Iran then launched strikes against US bases in Jordan.

The president made the threat he would strike Kharg Island, which is vital to Iran's oil operation, which could be the "biggest attack of them all," referenced to by the president in his Tuesday post announcing the other retaliation strikes.

According to Axios, the fresh strikes are part of a plan prevent Iran from rebuilding missile and radar capabilities that the regime would need to attack ships crossing the strait.

CENTOM said in a statement, "Today at 12 p.m. ET, U.S. forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran. The strikes follow recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region."

According to Iranian media, the strikes were conducted along Iran's coast in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Jask, Chabahar, Konarak, Minab, Sirik and the island of Qeshm.
