The bill will now head to the legislature to potentially become law. The announcement was reported by Mezha.
Shmyhal also said that women without work experience—who currently receive less than 1,000 hryvnias—would begin receiving 7,000 hryvnias per month once the new law is passed. Another measure would provide monthly payments to one parent or guardian until the child turns one year old. The specific amount of this monthly support is still being finalized.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previewed these changes after meeting with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in a Sunday post on social media, saying the Cabinet was finishing work on “a modernization of childbirth-related payments and support for mothers during the first years after giving birth.” The top item on the agenda was a new bill to increase financial assistance for parents.
Nearly 180,000 families are also set to receive government assistance through the “School Starter Pack” initiative, aimed at helping children prepare for the academic year. The state will also provide free school meals to students in grades 1–4 nationwide, and to all school-aged children in frontline areas.
"We must implement all planned decisions to support and protect entrepreneurship in our country, as well as scale up domestic weapons production programs. It is essential to carry out an audit of all agreements with partners – defense packages, investment decisions, and arrangements aimed at supporting Ukraine’s energy and social resilience. We are also preparing a substantial governance transformation. This will allow us to reduce the cost of maintaining the government bureaucracy, ensure significant deregulation, and direct the maximum available resources toward the defense of Ukraine and its people," a post to X by the president read.
The meeting also addressed plans to scale up domestic arms production, support Ukrainian businesses, and review all current agreements with foreign partners, including military aid, investment deals, and energy sector support.
Zelensky confirmed that a broad restructuring of the executive branch is underway.
These measures are aimed at reducing the cost of government operations.
