A record amount of explosives was stopped by authorities at the Belarus-Poland border as it was headed to Russia, as reported by EurAsia Daily. According to the State Customs Committee of Belarus, it was the largest amount of explosives that was stopped at the border.

"He tried to smuggle 580 kg of a particularly powerful explosive of foreign production (presumably the USA) through the Belarusian-Polish border and then transport it to Russia is a 41-year-old driver," the report from the State Customs Committee of Belarus (SCC) said.

The driver attempted to enter the country through the Brest checkpoint in a Mercedes, however, it was flagged for inspection during scanning, leading to the discovery.

The SCC reported said, "According to the results of the scan, which showed uncharacteristic darkening in the area of the floor of the car, as well as in the wall separating the cargo and passenger compartments, the car was sent for in-depth inspection, followed by partial dismantling of the floor and the wall of the car."

"As a result, a substance of light gray and light yellow color was found, which they tried to hide behind insulation sheets and chipboard sheets. In addition, the body was treated with technical grease from the inside to prevent service dogs from detecting the substance," the SCC added.

The substance was extracted, and the driver of the Mercedes was detained. After lab testing, the substance was detected to be "a powerful high explosive pentaerythritol tetranitrate (TEN) with a total amount of more than 580 kg."
