Viral videos showed a group of Lithuanian motorcyclists disrupting the Friday prayers at an Islamic mosque in Kaunas.
The group gathered at nearby Ramybės Park, where they were filmed blaring songs including the AC/DC rock classic “Thunderstruck.”
Photos of the event also showed one biker at the event carrying a pig’s head.
Although police responded to the protest, no violence was reported, according to Lithuania’s Delfi.
“I am shocked because it complicates the situation for the surrounding educational institutions and local residents,” one member of the Muslim community told “What’s Happening in Kaunas.”
A member of the Lithuanian parliament also condemned the demonstration in a Facebook post.
“You can have the strongest opinion on migration, you can discuss the problems that can be caused by the unsuccessful integration of immigrants, you can criticize all religions and protest. All this is a completely normal part of democratic politics,” wrote MP D. Žalimas.
“But gathering at a house of prayer while people are praying, deliberately making noise, disturbing, intimidating, and bringing a pig’s head (knowing what it means in the context of this religion) is simply a form of chauvinism that has nothing to do with patriotism,” Žalimas added.
However, the bikers indicated they were not trying to send any particular message.
“I was driving past, I saw a lot of like-minded people. I stopped and thought,” a man participating in the protest told “What’s Happening in Kaunas.”
The protest was reportedly the latest chapter in growing tension within the community, one of many in Europe that has been overwhelmed by the influx of Middle Eastern and North African Muslims.
The issue came to a head following an invasion of Moroccan nationals to the Spanish port city of Ceuta in July.
The immigrants have often clashed culturally with the European natives while bringing in social scourges including an uptick in violent crime and sexual assaults.
While some have raised their objections at the ballot box, ushering in a wave of support for right-wing, anti-immigration policies, others have taken matters into their own hands by disrupting prayer.
A previous viral video posted on social media showed a lone Scottish bagpiper playing over the Islamic call to morning prayer at what appeared to be the Tiroche Amphitheatre in Tel Aviv, Israel.
