“The Holy Father will be discharged from tomorrow in stable clinical condition with a prescription to partially continue drug therapy and a convalescence and rest period of at least two months,” Dr. Sergio Alfieri told reporters on Saturday, per CNN.
“Today we are happy to say that tomorrow he will be at home,” Alfieri added.
Pope Francis is also expected to make his first public appearance since his stint in the hospital on the balcony of the building before he is discharged and heads back to the Casa Santa Marta. Crux reported that even though the Francis is well enough to leave the hospital, the two-month rest period will also be one for observation as he continues the drug therapy to treat the effects of the illness.
The pontiff had two brushes with death while he was being treated. After the two incidents, he gradually regained strength in recovery. During the initial weeks in the hospital, he did not make an appearance or public statements. However, with time, he was able to communicate, and recorded his first audio message for the public.
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers for my health from the square," he said in the audio, sounding weak in the beginning of March.
