KENNY CODY: The House passing the new CR is a monumental win for Trump and MAGA

Over the past ten years, Republicans in Washington, DC, have been their own worst nightmare when it comes to passing legislation that is overwhelmingly America First. Whether it has been voting for mass spending packages on infrastructure for former President Joe Biden to deliver his administration a win, sending billions of dollars in foreign aid to Ukraine, or voting for amnesty when the mass majority of the country wants increased immigration reform, congressional Republicans have continued to increasingly shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to delivering victories for President Trump and the MAGA movement when the moment was the brightest.

Luckily, the mandate the American people delivered to now-47th President Donald Trump and Republicans in the United States House of Representatives and the US Senate has secured a significant win for decreased spending and fiscal responsibility. This is while ensuring they have an argument against Democrats amidst criticism from vast mainstream media networks, pundits, and eventual electoral challengers come the 2026 midterms, passing a Continuing Resolution on the night of March 10, 2025.

Through strategies used in the CR, Republicans implemented policies that align strictly with Trump’s mandate, a reassurance for the American people. With this CR, the GOP is finally becoming the party of fiscal responsibility, conservative monetary policy, and one that will not look to allocate funds to anywhere else before America.

Along with helping Trump, this aids House Speaker Mike Johnson in his relationship with the Trump administration. During his tenure as the only sole Republican figurehead amidst the Biden administration, Johnson did not fare very well amongst the Republican base due to his caving on other CRs, spending packages, and allowance of foreign aid to the benefit of Biden and the Democrats. Republicans needed him to deliver on the promises made by Trump and many of his own members, who campaigned to give the president the tools to accomplish his agenda. Luckily, Johnson performed one of the most essential victories of his tenure in leadership and established a coalition with the MAGA movement.

Most importantly, Trump secured a significant win for his agenda with the passing of this CR. With the House GOP Caucus holding a very slim majority in Congress, Trump had to ensure his allies made even detractors confident with the spending allocation, needed funding cuts, and policies that were prioritized in this bill. In the CR, policies such as extending the 2017 Trump tax cuts—which were immensely popular amongst voters—increasing security on the southern border, and heavy cuts to needless federal spending all delivered on the issues that Republicans at all levels of governance ran on throughout the nation.

Trump controls Congress, and his influence was sought during this piece of House legislation more than about any other time during the first few months of his second term. While sustaining the effort to ensure every cabinet pick was confirmed in the United States Senate, Trump needed a significant victory in the House, and he got it. His influence dominated the conversation, from getting aye votes from spending sticklers such as beloved Congressman Tim Burchett from Tennessee and fiscal hawks from the House Freedom Caucus to moderates like Representatives Don Bacon and Democratic Congressman Jared Golden. With the 217-213 passage, Trump showed that he can not only talk the talk in delivering campaign promises but also walk the walk in passing needed legislation, even with moderate detractors coming over to his side.

During President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress, he concentrated the entire speech on accomplishing his agenda through “swift and unrelenting action.” What many libertarians, such as Rep. Thomas Massie, may not like is that to achieve that action, the government needs to stay open for now. Without the needless pork included in other CRs during years past, this was an obvious legislative victory that Trump was able to deliver nearly seamlessly.

The stability President Trump has provided during this congressional session has been nothing short of remarkable. After the needed chaos caused by ousting former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, current Speaker Johnson being subject to criticism during the Biden Administration, and the lack of compromise the House GOP has struggled with the past decade, Trump has finally brought the party some needed unity around message in allocating Congressional priority to putting America First.
