ALEXANDER OAKES: Don't be fooled by the Dems' 'moderation,' but call their bluff

Last week President Trump addressed Congress, and the nation as a whole, directly and formally for the first time since his inauguration back in January. As expected, there were cheers from the Republicans, boos from the Democrats, passive digs aimed at DJT’s opposition, honorable mentions of VIP guests, and even some damning handheld signs that had the GOP shaking in its boots from laughter. That said, there was one moment earlier on in the sitting president’s speech that may have incidentally caused a ripple effect that could, if we don’t squander it, harm the Democrats electability come 2026 and 2028.

Freshman Rep. Al Green, who looks like a Dollar Store Danny Trejo, has received a significant amount of public support recently from, the Democrats, of course, but more specifically, he has garnered the attention/support of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). Why? Because he shouted and protested during Trump’s speech like a spoiled, petulant child and attacked the president’s position on Medicaid. Yep, it was a real Braveheart moment, right up until the Sergeant at Arms unceremoniously removed him that is; but aside from the CBC, who else is supporting Rep. Green and what does this mean for us moving forward?

We now know that the majority of Democrats stand behind Green. However, there were more than a few Democratic representatives that didn’t seem so enthusiastic about his behavior on the house floor, and this should be seen as a positive omen once you realize what you are actually looking at. Let me explain.

A few days ago, Rep. Al Green was officially censured by Congress. Granted, this doesn’t really mean anything tangible, but to a group of people that never face any consequences, or at least very rarely, this is actually somewhat of a big deal. In fact, only 23 members of Congress have been censured in our nation’s history, making Green's censuring, at the very least, noteworthy. But the real story here is that not one, not two, but ten Democrats voted with Republicans to make sure the censuring passed.

So, why the hell did these individuals, who are part of a party that is known for its cult-like uniformity and lock-step ideological cohesion, break ranks?

The answer to this seems pretty clear, but for context, whenever a party is not in power they tend to tone down their rhetoric in hopes of gaining moderate/swing voters in the next election cycle. This happens on the left and on the right. Case in point, since the election, my X feed is flooded with right wing influencers pushing for things like making gay marriage illegal again. Whether you agree with this or not, it is statistically a fairly fringe position, and also one that no person of influence on the right would have dared say a year ago, even if they truly believed it, because this would have painted the party as extreme. Now that they are in power, though, they've decided to go for broke.

This is exactly what some of the Dems are doing, or at least the smart ones anyway, and expect more to follow. In other words, following their brutal and sweeping defeat in 2024, it finally dawned on some of the lefties in positions of power that perhaps their radical views on transgenderism, open borders, and not enforcing laws against criminals are not quite as popular as they once thought. Ergo, based on this recent break from the party line, we can probably expect the Dems to tamper down their rhetoric regarding hyper-progressive positions. But don’t be fooled.

It is almost always the case that during the mid-term elections, the party in charge loses seats and the other party gains seats. The Democrats know this and that is likely the reason for their recent “appeal” to the moderate voters/fellow members of Congress. They are pretending to be reasonable so that they can get back into power. Then, as history has shown us, they will go right back to pushing insane nonsense.

But how do we keep this clever ploy from working and how do we ensure that we get everything out of these next four years that we can?

As counterintuitive as it is, over the next two years the right should not focus on beating their chest and talking about how great things are. Inspiring confidence is important, sure, but we need to force the left to cast their veil of normalcy and expose them for what they really are -- extreme. To do this, we should continue to push full steam ahead against their most outrageous positions. These positions include, but are not limited to: their desires to keep men in women’s sports, their desire to indoctrinate children with LGBTQ+ propaganda, their efforts to decriminalize violent crime, and very, very carefully, their positions on abortion.

This first item in that list is kind of already playing itself out in that, just recently, a measure that “sought to amend Title IX, the federal civil rights law against sex discrimination, to prohibit schools from allowing transgender students to compete in athletic events designated for women or girls” failed to pass the Senate with the 60 necessary votes. Since over 67% of Democratic voters oppose men in women’s sports, this is a winning issue for us, and as such we should keep forcing the Democrats to defend it right up until the mid-terms.

The second item (LGBTQ+ propaganda for children) is even more widely supported than the first and is in a similar category. So you can just lump those together; but as to the third item, their soft on crime policies, this is also a winning issue for us. You see, this issue uniquely affects blue areas and given the record rises in gun sales in these areas, as well as the great exodus these places are facing, it is safe to say that forcing the democrats to defend these policies in the name of racial equity will drive moderate voters, who are scared to even go outside in blue cities these days, to the right. Ergo, this should also be a focal point in the right wing messaging over the next two years.

The final item in my list, which, for the record is far from an exhaustive list, so just assume there are many more winning issues out there, is one that could be very effective, if managed correctly. This issue is abortion and, put frankly, it is one of the most extreme positions held by the left, and one of the most misrepresented.

The left loves to talk about rape, incest, and life of the mother when it comes to abortion, but this is complete BS. The truth, which I provided all the data for in my first book, is that less than one percent of abortions are done for these aforementioned reasons. The truth, 99% are simply elective abortions that are done because, essentially, the mother isn’t “feeling it.”

Now, it is true that, historically, abortion has been a losing issue for the right because many people on this side of the aisle, based predominately on their religious beliefs, see any abortion after conception as murder. Whether or not it is accurate, it is seen as extreme by the left and thus allows the Dems to control the narrative in a way that makes all pro-life individuals look like they want to “control women’s bodies.” However, the real extreme positions are those held by the left,. i.e., abortion on demand up until the point of birth codified into federal law. This is what we need to draw attention to, be it by toning down our own rhetoric on abortion while demanding they give a specific point at which abortion should be illegal, or by proposing our own federal restrictions, assuming, of course, they are reasonable for most of Americans (first trimester, heartbeat, etc.).

When it is all said and done, no one knows the future. Be that as it may, though, if we can call the Dems bluff and force them to defend their most radical positions, then it is likely that the red wave we saw in 2024 will continue through the midterms, and maybe even to 2028. So, to any America First politicians/influencers reading this, don’t get complacent. Politics is an ever changing battlefield and the only way we are going to make real, long lasting change is by continuing to shine sunlight on the left's radically progressive agenda.
