His condition has not changed significantly from the previous day, and another medical update is expected later in the evening. The Vatican confirmed that there were no additional respiratory complications following the difficulties he experienced on Saturday.
Despite his hospitalization, Pope Francis has continued to fulfill certain responsibilities, the Vatican says.
On Monday, he met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Peña Parra, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, to sign decrees related to sainthood causes.
Last week, medical reports noted that the Pope was also showing signs of mild renal insufficiency, though the Vatican has stated that this remains under control. A Monday evening update indicated that his respiratory condition had improved, with no further episodes of distress.
The statement also noted that certain laboratory test results showed progress. His oxygen therapy is ongoing but has been slightly reduced.
Doctors remain cautious in their prognosis, citing the complexity of his overall health situation. However, the recent improvements suggest that his condition is being managed effectively.
Pope Francis has also maintained his pastoral outreach during his hospital stay.
On Monday, he received the Eucharist and continued his work in the afternoon. According to reports, parishioners had sent the Pope a video message, which he acknowledged during their conversation.
The Vatican concluded its statement by conveying the Pope’s appreciation for the prayers and well-wishes he has received, stating that he is grateful for “the entire People of God, who in these days have gathered to pray for his health.”
