The Biden administration, and its allies, really don’t want to give up power.
This is not news; we have known this since they said “democracy be damned” and parachuted in Kamala Harris after the years of pretending Joe Biden could do the job came to a crashing, fiery end during his first (and only debate) with President-elect Trump. We saw it even before that, when they sought to censor all opposition to their policies out of existence as “disinformation,” or “misinformation,” or even “malinformation.” We knew it on the night of November 5, which made the results all the sweeter.
However, for just a brief, shining moment after the election, it looked like maybe the Democrats had been chastened by the results. President-elect Trump’s return to the White House was a model of cordiality. The hosts of Morning Joe went south to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring. Democratic legislators and governors even announced their intent to cooperate with the Department of Government Efficiency on some issues. And, of course, Biden himself promised to respect the peaceful transfer of power as Trump’s presidential transition officially began…
…and then crashed into the reality of who the Democrats are. Because frankly, not since Kaya Clementine Breen, has a transition been this rough. Though this one, at least, is necessary.
It is almost unnecessary to review the last month to see what we mean. Let’s start with the Biden administration itself. They have, in no particular order, allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russia, backed a revolution in Syria, strong-armed Israel into a ceasefire agreement which it took less than 24 hours for their partners to break (and which was clearly constructed to protect Iran), and permitted drones to harass American airspace with no apparent idea who was sending them, and that’s just the newsworthy stuff. USA Today already reports that Biden is doing everything in his power to “Trump-proof” his legacy, including spending huge amounts of money from the four spending packages he’s forced through Congress, and trying to force through the confirmation of federal judges.
What this all adds up to can best be summed up by Human Events Senior Contributor Charlie Kirk who said on Monday, “I think they’re trying to hand over a damaged country to President Trump. We already know what they’ve done with inflation and the open border. But there is some suspicious stuff not just happening with the drones, but internationally, there are some things bubbling up. With Syria, Russia, Ukraine, the Israel situation, and President Trump is about to be handed a very difficult situation on January 20. And that, by the way, is an interference and an interruption with the peaceful transition of power. Isn’t the whole idea with the peaceful transition of power that you’re not going to try to ruin the country on the way out?”
To which anyone even remotely schooled in civics would have to answer, yes, that is precisely the idea behind the peaceful transfer of power. But the Biden administration doesn’t want to peacefully hand over power. They’ve been forced to by the fact that voters resoundingly and overwhelmingly rejected them in a win that was too big to rig, but make no mistake, their petulant hatred for President-elect Trump and the nationalist style of governance he embodies endures. They loathe real democracy, which they believe has been hacked by racism and misinformation, and would gladly see America burn so long as the nationalists were the ones blamed for it.
And that is not the only way in which these dime store saboteurs are planning to attack the incoming presidency. CNN has already reported that despite their depressed, contrite public presentation, Democratic governors are quietly planning to essentially defy the federal government in some fo the most brazen ways since the Nullification Crisis prior to the Civil War. This includes, but is not limited to flat-out refusing to let their state police and National Guard units aid in deportations, and actively turning off GPS tracking on women’s phones to thwart any and all enforcement of laws on abortion. Granted, some – like Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer – are planning to strike a more deferential pose, but the fact that this is even being considered is alarming. This isn’t how American government is supposed to work, and the Democrats should know that. We already fought a Civil War against them to prove it once.
This time, fortunately, violence is unlikely to be the ultimate result. Lawfare, on the other hand, is almost certain to get involved. California Governor Gavin Newsom is probably the biggest canary in the coal mine there, seeing as he has openly asked the California State Legislature to allocate $25 million for an “Anti-Trump Litigation Fund.” Yes, that’s right. California is so determined to continue its disastrous policies that it is now using its taxpayers’ money to defy the federal government. If any red state had done this to Biden, you’d be hearing talk about the second coming of Jefferson Davis. But as always, the Democrats’ moral arrogance has completely cut them off from anything resembling simple consistency, let alone actual morality.
However, and this we are quite certain of, for all their petulance, arrogance, and defiance, the Democrats will find that they are outmatched. President-elect Trump is no longer the relative neophyte he was in 2016, and the people around him have almost all undergone a baptism by fire thanks to the Democrats’ prior efforts at lawfare. And the world knows it. The reason the Biden administration’s provocations abroad have not resulted in World War III, for example, is that virtually no one on the world stage seems to believe Biden is president in anything but name. To them, the Biden administration’s last fumbling attempts at foreign policy must seem less like genuine threats and more like the senescent outbursts of a rejected regime that they are; nothing but neoliberalism’s nocturnal emissions as it refuses to go gently into that good night.
Nevertheless, vigilance is necessary, because it is always possible that, for all the exhaustion of the Democrats’ philosophy, the rage of their young woke staffers may still do unforeseen (and potentially unimaginable) damage. President-elect Trump has his work cut out for him. We hope that when it comes to sabotage, as it comes to everything else they’ve tried, the Biden administration and the Democratic party itself prove to be the same dismal failures we’ve known for the past four years.
