While he was mayor of San Francisco, he never took such actions to address similar problems. Why now?
The answer is simple, Kamala Harris and his ambition.
Before an election cycle, many blue cities and states make a big push to clean up notorious hot spots. All of a sudden, the streets get a lot cleaner and the homeless get pushed away so that voters will think that the people in charge are doing a good job. Voters have a notoriously short memory.
Newsom infamously hid all the homeless in San Francisco and cleaned the streets in 2023 to prepare for the arrival of Chinese Communist leader Xi Jinping. If the cleanup can be done in a matter of days, why not do it earlier?
The state has blown billions on homelessness and the problem has only gotten worse. Clearing encampments was never part of Newsom’s solutions, so why clear them now?
Some might point to the US Supreme Court ruling on the Grants Pass case which allowed municipalities to clear homeless encampments. but that was a month ago. Why wait until now to act?
Because Kamala Harris is from California.
The Democrats and the media are in the middle of rewriting Harris’ failed record. California is notoriously poorly run, overwhelmed with crime and quality of life issues. They need to make California look like a paradise so that they can say ‘What a great job she did as a senator,’ even though she was one of the most liberal senators and the policies she championed led to the downward spiral.
They need the crime on the downturn so they can point to her awful prosecutorial record and say, ‘Look how tough she was on crime,’ even though she advocated for a bail fund to bail out rioters in 2020 and was a notoriously bad prosecutor who supported anti-police policies, including no cash bail.
Newsom is an eager beaver and wants to run for president one day. He knows that the fastest way to DC is to help a California senator get elected so that he can ride her coattails to a cabinet position. If she loses, the elites in the Democratic party will call him a 'good soldier' and thank him for what he did for Kamala by bumping Newsom to the top of the candidate list for 2028. Newsom doesn't want to be VP. Aside from the Constitutional issues of him and Harris being from the same state, Newsom refuses to be anyone's second banana.
But none of that will happen if the eyes of the country are drawn to the bankrupt, crime-ridden cesspool that California has become under leftist politicians like Newsom and Harris.
Newsom is so transparent that it takes all the fun out of guessing his motivations.
