A father and son duo in Birmingham, England hired a US-based assassin in 2019 to kill a boutique clothing store owner over a dispute. Mohammed Aslam, 56, and his son Mohammed Nazir, 30 were found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder on Monday.

A UK court heard how the 44-year-old assassin, Aimee Betro, flew from Milwaukee to kill Sikander Ali after being contracted by Aslam and Nazir, per Daily Mail. She disguised herself in a hijab when she pulled up to Ali's house in a Mercedes and attempted to shoot him on September 7, 2019, however her gun jammed and she and her target fled the scene.

Betro, an administrator for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team, later returned in a taxi, fired 3 shots towards the house, then texted Ali's father Aslat Mahamud, another potential target, "Stop playing hide and seek" and "Where are you hiding?"

She later texted Mahamud again, saying "you want to rip me off, you want to be a drugs kingpin go look at your house. I will show you. Watch your back. I will be shedding blood soon."

Mahamud replied: "What are you talking about? I'm a family man I have never sold drugs in my life."

Betro, who studied early childhood education at a local Milwaukee college, was unsuccessful in completing the murder-for-hire plot, prosecutor Kevin Hegarty KC told the court. She flew back to the US 2 days later and is still reportedly at large.

However when police launched an investigation into the shootings, they were led back to Aslam and Nazir through their phones, CCTV and financial investigations. The pair will be sentenced on August 9.
