UK judge clears way for father to give child sex change against mother's wishes

This week, a UK judge sided with the father of a 16-year-old trans-identified female to allow the minor to seek sex change treatments at a private clinic against the mother's wishes.

According to the Daily Mail, the mother of the child did not believe her 16-year-old was capable of consenting to sterilizing treatments, but Mrs. Justice Judd ruled that the High Court could not "override" the minors choice. The mother brought the case two years ago.

In a statement, the mother said, "My daughter hates me. But as awful as it is to lose a child, it is more important to me that my beautiful, clever child is safe." She added, "If I hadn't gone to court she'd potentially have received hormones from Gender GP two years ago."

She told the outlet that she began to worry about her daughter when she discovered what she was viewing on transgender social media pages. "I found they were full of mostly teenage girls cheering each other on, calling each other 'bro' and encouraging each other to get testosterone and mastectomies," the mother said.

The father in this case did agree to not "fund or facilitate" treatment through the online Gender GP service and instead would utilize the Gender Plus center run by former staff from the Tavistock clinic.

Recently, the Gender GP service was a source of controversy after the National Health Service in England issued an urgent safety alert against it, the Telegraph reported. The NHS told doctors that because the service does "not provide physiological or psychological support" to patients they should not prescribe puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones based on Gender GP's recommendations.

In the long-awaited Cass report, Dr. Hilary Cass warned UK officials that private clinics were not providing proper assessments of gender-questioning children. She also found that the practice of prescribing puberty blockers for those under 18 was not well supported and the gender medical industry was "built on shaky foundations."
