ROD THOMSON: Exclude hostile media from the White House briefing room

The sclerotic legacy media and their poison should be banned from the Briefing Room.

The sclerotic legacy media and their poison should be banned from the Briefing Room.

Is there any reason that the media outlets that called President Trump a Nazi, a fascist, literally Hitler, an authoritarian and an existential threat to America should be allowed in the Briefing Room during his administration — or any future Republican administration? In his 2016 election campaign, Trump labeled them an enemy of the American people. And they have proven him right.

What he shouldn’t do is meet with some of the worst of the liars and scoundrels, such as Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, unless he is planning to use and humiliate them. What he and Americans should never do is forget the lies they told for the past eight years.

The media’s wild and dangerous rhetoric undoubtedly fed into assassination attempts against Trump, including being shot in the head. We saw this in the ravings of those who made the attempt. And it is not new, as a maniac, quoting fellow maniac Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, tried to mass assassinate Republicans at a baseball diamond in 2017.

The media worked feverishly to undermine his first presidency with lie after lie after lie about Russian collusion, an impeachable phone call to the new Ukrainian president, and a second one over an “insurrection.” Then they did the same things and worse during his re-election campaign. There is zero reason to think they will do otherwise in his second term.

And it’s not like Democrat presidents such as Biden and Obama opened the Briefing Room to alternative media during their terms. They allowed in and called on their reliably friendly, allied media outlets.

Not only did the media’s dangerous partisan rhetoric create direct threats to the President’s life, it endangered his supporters and voters. And in the end, it did so for their own viewers and consumers, who now feel so misled they are seeking mental health support. They cannot conceive of how Trump won, because they imbibed the daily media lies.

Speaking of mental health, the media embraced every woke insanity conjured up in the fever swamp of cloistered universities. They practice and promote highly divisive and ultimately bigoted diversity, equity and inclusion poison. They buy into white supremacy everywhere and Marxist ideas such as equal outcomes — as long as it is not applied to them personally.

But on one specific woke point alone they should be banned from the Briefing Room: the utterly detached from reality transgender destructionism, pushing the chemical sterilization and mental abuse of juveniles.

They have changed the language, including in their own AP Stylebook, calling a pregnant woman a pregnant person, breastfeeding has become chest feeding, males who are moderate athletes can claim to be a woman, with no change in their male package, just take some estrogen, claim they are a woman, and rob real girls of scholarships, awards and records. The media played an essential role in all of this.

On this and so many other points, the sclerotic legacy media and their poison should be banned from the Briefing Room. They have forfeited their privilege by being propagandists, and not journalists. The list of bannings can start with MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS (and defund it) the New York Times, Washington Post, all Gannett newspapers, the AP, the Atlantic and all those “news” magazines like it.

Those who should be allowed in can start with Fox News, New York Post, Washington Examiner, Daily Wire, The Blaze, The Free Press, Epoch Times, Newsmax, Breitbart, The Federalist, Gateway Pundit, and The Post Millennial. Also, really thinking about New Media, some podcasters such as Megyn Kelly or representative. On probation could include CNN, (minus Jim Acosta).

This will sound draconian to some, but there is no Constitutional right for any of them to be there, or to even have a Briefing Room. If we are going to have daily press briefings, which are of dubious value beyond the occasional viral clip, the administration in office should, and does, have authority over who attends. Exercise it.
