'Democratic Socialist' is an Oxymoron

On the Sidewalks of New York is a weekly feature at Human Events wherein Jacqueline Toboroff, a native New Yorker, will share her observations and candid commentary on the goings-on in our nation’s largest city. Wherever you live, and whatever you feel, there is no escaping the fact that New York City matters.

What happens in New York City matters. It’s one of the prime gardens where lunacy sprouts and then spreads to the rest of the nation.  We need to discard a false term that is becoming mainstream; Democratic Socialist. It is an oxymoron. Democrats are historically and traditionally Keynesian. They believe in government spending money for the welfare of citizens. They get that money from taxing those citizens. Socialists believe in overtaxing their citizenry and creating an aristocratic ruling class that decides what the tax revenues will be spent on and who will get to do the spending. There’s no way for a Socialist government to stay in power without some type of paramilitary force and propaganda to placate and convince citizens, no matter the chaos that will follow. It has been said that Socialism is the second to last stop on the bus to Communism which has killed 100 million people.

Socialists don’t believe in Democracy. Those calling themselves Democrat Socialists have zero understanding of history and likely double-barreled two ideologies they think to be complimentary but are mired in poverty and death. Coincidentally, this is what they should call their new political party, “Poverty and Death.”

Team AOC put out a tweet on February 6th. @AOC speaks at a fundraiser for @tiffany_caban this past Saturday. ‘We really cannot underestimate what was started just a few short years ago…’ Starting in 2018 our movement has worked to put Democratic Socialists into every level of our government.”

Hey, America, perhaps you choose not to live in New York City because of the crime, homeless crisis, hypodermic needles blanketing parks, broken education, cost of living, and illegals. But the joke is on you; your taxes fund our insanity which metastasizes throughout the nation. If you’re sick of funding our dysfunction, it’s time to fight back. Here’s how.

We need to put attention, money and grassroots power behind Republican candidates running against Democrat Socialists and help less crazy Democrats challenging the kooks in the primaries prevail. The choice is crazy or normal.

City Council member Tiffany Caban, “repping” District 22 is someone we should all rally to defeat.

On February 4th, Caban held a star-studded fundraiser comprised of Hollywood glitterati and the brain trust of the Democrat party. Cynthia Nixon, Chuck Schumer, AOC, Jumaal Bowman, Shahana Hanif, Sandy Nurse, Yuh-Line Niou, Chi Osse, were in attendance and lighting up social media begging for donations to Caban’s re-election campaign. It was a collection of collectors; grievance victims, wingers, crime sympathizers, farting cow experts, Met Gala attendees, and private security detail lovers.

Here’s what Caban wants to do; “defund and abolish” the NYPD. She uses Tyre Nichols to foment racism and substantiate the unsubstantiatable.  Here’s Caban’s tweet from January 27th, a week before her fancy soirée. “Diversity won’t save us. Body cameras won’t save us. Dressings on an irredeemable, barbaric system hell bent on the violent maintenance of order, control and domination masquerading as the only possible stewards of safety. One of the greatest lies ever told. Defund and abolish.”

Sounds like the Socialist Democrat is describing masks and lockdowns.

How are things going in New York City? Well, 2023 is off to a bang.  Serious assaults are up over 18%, rapes are up nearly 16%, robberies up 9.4%, and burglaries are up 5.5% year to date, according to NYPD statistics. In 2022, there were 186,534 misdemeanor/felony arrests in New York City. This translated somehow into only 19,777 admissions to Rikers. In other words, criminals are criminalizing, and prosecutors aren’t prosecuting or judges aren’t judging.

Just this past Tuesday, an off-duty NYPD officer, Adeed Fayaz, married father of two, succumbed to his injuries and died after being shot over the weekend by a career criminal. Caban’s reference to the “barbaric system hell bent on the violent maintenance of order, control and domination masquerading as the only possible stewards of safety” is just as upside down as the name of her political party. The police aren’t the problem, the criminals are. Moreover, the criminals without any fear or constraints are the cancer.

District 22 is based in northern Astoria in Queens, also covering parts of East Elmhurst, and Woodside. Rikers Island, which is officially part of the Bronx, is located within the district. It’s a hot mess. Under Caban’s reign, between 2021 through 2022, “there has been a 58% increase in crime across the borough. There has been a big spike in both violent crimes as well as property theft, such as grand larcenies and auto theft,” according to the Astoria Post. Defunding and abolishing NYPD sure seems like a good idea.

Biden just gave his State of the Union speech. The WSJ says, “When Mr. Biden finally announces his re-election bid, he will be running as a democratic socialist. That is the clear takeaway from the more than 70 minutes Mr. Biden spent describing his plans to push federal spending and mandates into every nook of American life.

These people are not Democratic Socialists. They’re Socialists, and they’re crazy.
