Former President Donald Trump was spotted in Washington, DC on Sunday, after having made an unannounced trip to the nation's capital.

Newsweek reports that this visit has spurred rumors as to the reasons for the trip. A journalist on the scene at Dulles Airport, Andrew Leyton, captured Trump's departure via motorcade. Trump was wearing golf attire, leading to speculation that he was heading to his DC golf course.

Trump has only been to DC once since leaving office, and he didn't indicate via social media or other statements that he'd be making the trip. Trump frequently announces to supporters where he intends to travel for rallies.

There have been suggestions that Trump made the trip because an arrest may be coming in the Biden administration's pursuit of a case against him over documents that were seized by the FBI during an August 8 raid of Mar-a-Lago. The Department of Justice alleges that Trump had stored classified documents improperly, and that he obstructed the earlier investigation into whether or not he was storing documents improperly at his Florida residence.

However, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is also set to give a speech a the America First Policy Institute and the Abraham Accords Peace Institute on Monday as well, and this could be the cause for the trip.

Some on Twitter seemed to be hoping that Trump's visit had to do with the DOJ, such as former Trump official Kellyanne Conway's husband George, who said the weather in DC hasn't been golf-worthy.

While Seth Abramson, a journalist and attorney, said that this was unlikely.
