Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott canceled his Friday National Rifle Association appearance in Houston and will instead make a trip to Uvalde, where 19 children and two teachers were murdered at Robb Elementary School.
Abbott was scheduled to speak in person, but instead recorded video remarks that will be shown at the event, a spokesman for the governor said Thursday, per Just the News.
As previously reported by Human Events News, guns will be banned during President Trump’s speech on Friday at the event.
The NRA said the Secret Service made the decision about the ban, which also prevents attendees from bringing knives, laser pointers, pepper spray, toy guns and backpacks. The Secret Service has the authority to prevent firearms from “entering sites visited by our protectees, including those located in open-carry states,” according to the agency.
Attendees will also be scanned by Secret Service agents with metal-detecting magnetometers before entering the venue.
