House Republicans Introduce ‘Stop AOC Act’ to Stop Government from Funding COVID-19 Funerals

A group of House republicans introduced legislation Monday to prevent FEMA from funding funeral expenses that “may or may not have been the result of a COVID-19 death.”

The Daily Caller obtained a copy of the “Stop AOC Act,” introduced by Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert and a group of House republicans, which would terminate FEMA’s COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program.

Indeed, the program has shelled out more than $1.158 billion to 176,000 people out of the initial $2 billion set aside for the program.

Boebert slammed progressive “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for supporting the program.

“AOC’s government welfare program is cradle to grave - literally. AOC and Chuck Schumer have shelled out almost $1.2 billion in COVID funeral earmarks. Never mind that the average cost of a funeral is $3,000-$7,000, AOC’s FEMA program will give you $9,000. There has been little to no auditing of this colossal waste of money, and the program is ripe for abuse and fraud - even allowing illegal immigrants to receive money,” Boebert said. “The Biden regime’s priority is placating AOC instead of helping Americans; for instance, while the VA backlog takes over 125 days, it only takes a month to get funding from AOC’s pet project.”

“This is just another blue state bailout, and coastal blue states like Maryland, New York, D.C., and California get almost 70% more money per COVID death on average than rural states like Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and New Mexico. I’m sick of my constituents’ tax dollars being sent to bankrupt liberal states through a program that is bankrupting the federal government,” she added.

The bill’s seven co-sponsors include Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde, South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, Illinois Rep. Mary Miller, Florida Rep. Brian Mast and Georgia Rep. Jody Hice.
