The FDA authorized the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 on Friday, making it the first COVID-19 vaccine available to 28 million children in the U.S.

Children will now be able to receive one-third of the adult dose, with two injections three weeks apart. If the CDC signs off, which is expected, they could start getting vaccines as early as Wednesday.

The FDA made the decision several days after its advisory committee voted 17 to 0 with one abstention in favor of recommending the vaccine for children, per Just the News. The committee said the benefits outweigh the risks.
