The night before her colleagues are expected to vote on her removal from leadership, Rep. Liz Cheney delivered a fiery speech, showing a lack of political intelligence and unwillingness to save herself.
“Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president. They hear his words but not the truth,” the republican said in the six-minute speech Tuesday.
Indeed, as reported by Human Events News, the goal to get rid of Cheney has been endorsed by top republicans, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steve Scalise, who say she can’t remain in her role if she won’t embrace Trump’s message
“This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans,” Cheney continued. “Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar. I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence, while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.”
Cheney, one of 10 republicans to vote in favor of Trump’s impeachment early this year, continued ripping into the former president.
“Today, we face a threat America has never seen before. A former president who provoked a violent attack on this Capitol, in an effort to steal the election, has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him,” she added. “He risks inciting further violence. Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president, they have heard only his words, but not the truth. As he continues to undermine our democratic process, sowing seeds of doubt about whether democracy really works at all.”
Now, you would think that Cheney would play her cards smarter. But, the speech ultimately demonstrated that she - whether it was intentional or not - possesses a lack of political “smarts.” Politics is a game, and Cheney clearly needs more practice.
