Eagle Publishing Becomes Part of Salem Communications' Conservative Multi-Media Empire
Salem Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: SALM) announced the acquisition of the assets of Eagle Publishing, including Regnery Publishing, HumanEvents.com, and Redstate.com, as well as sister business units Eagle Financial Publications and Eagle Wellness.
Salem has been on a buying spree recently as it seeks to assemble a portfolio of multi-media assets aimed at creating a media powerhouse. The combination will offer many of conservatism's finest voices in talk radio, book publishing and digital media.
Salem's syndicated programming, individual radio stations, and websites reach millions of listeners and readers across the country, while Regnery Publishing, RedState.com, and Human Events provide compelling ideas and opinion to millions of conservatives online and in print. The acquisition of these highly regarded conservative media properties will allow Salem to strengthen and deepen its already extensive presence in the conservative market.

The transaction also brings a close to an important chapter in publishing career of entrepreneur Tom Phillips, owner an chairman of Eagle Publishing.

Jeff Carneal, Eagle's president, said when the decision occurred to sell the company, the goal became to find a strong buyer that would "fully embrace" the company's multi-pronged mission.

Eagle Publishing operates four businesses:
Regnery Publishing, founded in 1947, publishes conservative books, including many of the seminal works of the conservative movement, such as Russell Kirk's "The Conservative Mind" and William F. Buckley Jr's "God and Man at Yale." More recently, Regnery has published dozens of bestselling books by conservative authors and personalities, including Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, Michelle Malkin, David Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Mark Steyn and Dinesh D'Souza.
Human Events (described by Ronald Reagan as his favorite newspaper) was founded in 1944 and now operates a website that provides news and commentary on issues of interest to the conservative community. One of its media properties is RedState, led by Erick Erickson, who is considered one of the most influential bloggers on the political right.
Eagle Financial Publications provides market analysis and specific investment advice for individual investors from experts that include Mark Skousen, Nicholas Vardy, Chris Versace, and Doug Fabian. It publishes four monthly investment newsletters, a growing number of weekly trading services and four free weekly e-letters. It also serves investors, policymakers and taxpayers by providing valuable information about the markets and the economy through its Eagle Daily Investor website.
Eagle Wellness provides practical health advice and offers nutritional supplements recommended by a respected medical providers who emphasize proper eating and lifestyle as alternatives to medication.
