Weathermen Terrorists Agree: Obama in ’08!

By now many Americans have heard of William Ayers, a member of the 1960s radical terrorist organization Weather Underground. However, Ayers isn’t the only Weather Underground member to help Obama’s political career. Aaron Klein of World Net Daily reported last month that Mark Rudd, a cofounder of the Weather Underground, is working to elect the presidential candidate through Progressives for Obama. The organization’s mission:

“[I]t will be the Obama movement that will make it necessary and possible to end the war in Iraq, renew our economy with a populist emphasis, and confront the challenge of global warming. We should not only keep the pressure on [Obama] but also connect the issues that Obama has made central to his campaign into an overarching progressive vision.”

Klein wrote:

“Rudd originally was a top member of the Students for a Democratic Society, or SDS, leading the famed 1968 Columbia University strikes in which hundreds of students seized several university buildings. He also served as spokesman for the strikes, attracting international media attention.

In 1968, Rudd traveled with the SDS to Cuba, defying U.S. travel bans, where he says he was heavily influenced by the legacy of Che Guevara and Cuban-style revolution. When he returned to the U.S., Rudd advocated for Columbia's chapter of the SDS to carry out militant, aggressive action, but he was turned down.

A bio published on his own website explains Rudd worked to form the Weathermen as a radical alternative to the SDS and for white Americans to eject their "white skin privilege" and begin "armed struggle" against the U.S. government.

The Weathermen took responsibility for bombing U.S. governmental buildings in the 1970s.”

While the media digs through the lives of those who question Obama’s politics, they ignore the radicals that have supported Obama every step of the way.

Ayers, Obama, Farrakhan: Just Another Chicago Neighborhood

In 1997, then State Senator Barack Obama wrote a short review for the Chicago Tribune on William Ayers’ new book, A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court. Zomblog, one of the few blogs with original research and content, uncovered the review by using tools that seem to confound the elite media - Lexis Nexis and microfilm available at the local library (in San Francisco, no less).

On Ayers’ book Obama wrote, “A searing and timely account of the juvenile court system, and the courageous individuals who rescue hope from despair.”

In his book, Ayers even gave Obama a shout-out:

“Our neighbors include Muhammad Ali, former mayor Eugene Sawyer, poets Gwendolyn Brooks and Elizabeth Alexander, and writer Barack Obama. Minister Louis Farrakhan lives a block from our home and adds, we think, a unique dimension to the idea of a ‘safe neighborhood watch’: the Fruit of Islam, his security force, has an eye on things twenty-four-hours a day.”

There is no doubt Obama has not been truthful about his extended relationship with Ayers. Obama has continued to dismiss critics by saying that Ayers was just a guy that lived in his neighborhood. A few days after the review was published, Obama and Ayers both spoke at a conference on juvenile justice that was organized by Michelle Obama. Only one question remains - did they carpool to the conference or drive separately?

Intimidation by the Obama Campaign

The Heritage Foundation’s The Foundry blog reported this week on intimidation tactics being used by the Obama campaign. Obama for America general counsel Bob Bauer sent a letter to U.S. attorney general Michael Mukasey asking for an investigation of those who question ACORN and other instances of alleged voter fraud. Bauer wrote:

“As Election Day approaches - just as in 2004 and 2006 - Republican Party officials and operatives nationwide, including the candidates themselves, are fomenting specious vote fraud allegations, and there are distorting indications of official involvement or collusion.

Accordingly, I call on you and Special Prosecutor Dannehy to expand her investigation to include these matters, all of them entirely consistent with the pattern of misconduct already within her charge.”

Heritage fellow Hans von Spakovsky, a former FEC official, responded to the Obama campaigns’ threats:

“The Obama campaign’s Stalinist-style demand that a special prosecutor at the Department of Justice criminally prosecute any candidates, party officials or congressmen who discussed their concerns over voter fraud is an outrageous attempt to use the power of the federal government to intimidate and persecute political opponents. It is almost as if Senator Obama wants to reinstitute the Alien and Sedition Acts and it brings into sharp focus the issue of whether he understands the protections of the First Amendment and the importance of fair and secure elections.”

Journalists Doing a Disservice to Democracy

Don Irvine of Accuracy in Media notes that the elite media is continuing their silence on Obama’s broken promise of accepting public financing. Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post and Mark Halperin of Time magazine discussed this double standard on CNN’s Reliable Sources:

Kurtz: If a Republican had not taken public financing and had raised all that money, and the Democrat was struggling financially, wouldn't we see a lot of stories about one candidate essentially trying to buy the election?

Halperin: We would. We'd also see a lot of stories about his going back on his word saying that he would accept the public money and would reach out to Senator McCain to try to work out a deal. So I think this is a case of a clear, unambiguous double standard, and any reporter who doesn't ask themselves, 'Why is that, why would it be different if it's a Republican?' I think is doing themselves and our profession and our democracy a disservice.

Celebrity Quote of the Week

Since the Left is so enamored with their celebrity supporters, Obama Watch highlights one each week. While promoting the newest Indiana Jones movie, George Lucas was asked about his own hero. Lucas replied:

“We have a hero in the making back in the United States today because we have a new candidate for president of the United States, Barack Obama.”

Am I the only one that can think of the true American hero in the presidential race? Ditto for the sons of Palin, McCain and Biden.
