Starbucks, ‘The Way I See It’

The quotes on their cups may be stimulating but we have a few of our own conversation starters

Sparking conversation: In the tradition of coffee houses everywhere, Starbucks has always supported a good, healthy discussion. To get people talking, “The Way I See It” is a collection of thoughts, opinions and expressions provided by notable figures that now appear on our widely shared cups.” www.starbucks.com

Dear Starbucks,

After downing approximately 710 grande sugar-free vanilla latte’s with skin milk this year alone, I have made reading the quotes on the sides of your cups a morning ritual. "Sparking conversation" on the train, in the car, or at the office - the quotes can be thought provoking, and even humorous.

But yesterday, after stirring in my Splenda and taking a steaming sip, my hand grasped the cup in panicked frenzy… A wise word from feminazi Maureen Dowd loomed on the side of my cup in that garland green print. Suddenly, my sweet coffee love turned bitter and I couldn’t help but question the franchise giant - is Starbucks liberal? My Starbucks?

After a caffeine induced pow-wow with HUMAN EVENTS editors we decided to make some of our own contributions to your collection.

"The free market is ugly and stupid, like going to the mall; the unfree market is just as ugly and just as stupid, except there's nothing in the mall and if you don't go there they shoot you." - P.J. O'Rourke

"If you dont read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed" - Mark Twain

"The only difference between a tax man and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the skin" - Mark Twain

(Starbucks does make an effort to print a variety of quotations on their cups. On the Starbucks website there is even a form to submit comments and quotations. Help save our morning coffee and submit some new quotations)
