Battle-weary but satisfied, conservatives can give themselves a pat on the back

Congratulations, America. You did it. You and the conservative stalwarts - Sen. Jeff Sessions, Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. David Vitter and Sen. Tom Coburn - defeated the Bush-McKennedy immigration amnesty bill. We at HUMAN EVENTS are proud of the role we played in defeating the bill, but credit must go first to those in the conservative press and talk radio without whom this couldn't have been accomplished. The vote was 46 to 53.

This achievement proves that the voice of the people can make a difference when we elect leaders who fulfill their obligations and put principle first.
