According to a Florida professor, Jesus didn't walk on the water.

Doron Nof, is a professor of oceanography at the University of Florida who just released a study saying Jesus, more than likely, walked on a layer of ice than the turbulent seas of Galilee, according to a Reuters report.

Nof studied the Mediterranean Sea's temperatures and used statistical models to examine the dynamics of the Sea of Galilee, according to the article, and then theorized "a drop in temperature below freezing could have caused ice thick enough to support a human to form on the surface…" Thus, to those watching Jesus from afar, it would have appeared he was walking on water when, actually, he was on "a piece of floating ice."

As to how Jesus got onto "a piece of floating ice" in the middle of a lake, no explanations were offered in the article, but let's just over-look that for now.

"If you ask me if I believe someone walked on water, no, I don't," Nof said. "Maybe somebody walked on the ice, I don't know. I believe that something natural was there that explains it."

Once again, this is a prime example of money well spent on scholarly work. Come on!

It's hard to believe Professor Nof spends his time trying to figure out whether or not Jesus walked on the water.

Here's a novel concept: considering Jesus performed countless other miracles and was up, walking around three days after His death, maybe there’s a slight chance He actually walked on the water too. But, then again, maybe those were just His pet penguins out there on the lake with Him rather than His disciples.

Professor Nof's study was published in the Journal of Paleolimnology as a "possible explanation" for Jesus' walk on water according to the Reuters story. Fourteen years ago Nof put forth another scientific explanation of Biblical proportions when he suggested "that wind and sea conditions could explain the parting of the Red Sea."

The professor says, "We leave to others the question of whether or not our research explains the biblical account."

Personally, I think Professor Nof's research will leave many others praying for his soul as well as for his students.
