In a press release today, Rep. Jeb Hensarling defends his Texan colleague and thanks him for his service:
"In America, everyone should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. That should apply to your neighbor down the street as well as the Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. No one should be convicted by headlines alone.
"Tom DeLay's conservative ideals and effectiveness have made him a top target for the Democrats' politically motivated attacks. At the end of the day, it is my hope and expectation that he will be completely exonerated.
"Tom DeLay has served the people of Texas and the United States admirably throughout his long political career. His announcement is a further testament to his devotion to the House of Representatives and to America."
