Blunt Falls Short of Votes on First Ballot

The Associated Press is reporting that the House Republicans failed to elect a new leader on the first ballot. Acting Majority Leader Roy Blunt (R.-Mo.) fell seven votes shy and will now face Rep. John Boehner (R.-Ohio) in a runoff.

Here are the totals, according to the AP:

  1. Rep. Roy Blunt: 110 votes
  2. Rep. John Boehner: 79 votes
  3. Rep. John Shadegg: 40 votes
  4. Rep. Jim Ryun: 2 votes
