While the House was voting this afternoon, the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Ed Patru spoke at length with bloggers about the outlook in 2006.

When fellow blogger Ian Schwartz of Expose the Left asked Patru about if the GOP would pick up seats in the House this year, Patru gave an interesting response:

“We’re interested in maintaining a majority,” he said. “I won’t make any predictions.”

As I noted moments ago, the GOP is facing a monumental challenge this year. Not only has it traditionally been bad luck for a president’s party in the sixth year of his presidency, but this president is on the ropes.
