Sen. Kent Conrad (D.-N.D.) is receiving a warm round of applause for his decision to support the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court from conservative activists today.

"We are very pleased that Senator Conrad has chosen to side with mainstream Americans in supporting Judge Alito - and has rejected the extreme positions of liberals in his party, like Ted Kennedy," said Matt Lewis of the Judicial Confirmation Network of North Dakota in a press release. "He deserves our respect for doing the right thing for America."

Considering he is up for re-election this year in a predominantly red state, Conrad's decision doesn't come as much of a surprise.

According to NDJCN, thousands of North Dakotans made calls and sent e-mails to the Senator's office, insisting the Conrad support Alito.

Conrad said in a press release today that "it is clear that both the majority of my constituents and the majority of the American people are in favor of Judge Alito's confirmation."
