Were children in the first through eighth grades to determine the presidential race, George W. Bush would be re-elected with 52% of the vote to 47% for John Kerry and 1% for other candidates. According to Scholastic, the international children's publishing and media company, more than one million students nationwide participated in the Scholastic Election Poll, now 54 years old. The poll has mirrored the eventual election outcome in every presidential election but two, 1948 and 1960, when more students voted for losing GOP nominees Thomas E. Dewey and Richard Nixon.
