  • Howard Dean was on his way to giving a great speech. Then he ended abruptly without really getting to the good part. I was expecting the left-wing version of Pat Buchanan's 1992 address-perhaps the last great convention speech anyone has given-and Dean was on track for that after a few minutes even though he lacked the stage presence Buchanan had that year. Instead, Dean was (I assume) heavily edited by the DNC censors and kept to a very short time limit. (After deep thought, I also finally figured out who it is that Dean reminds me of with his demeanor and mannerisms-it's Mel Gibson.)
  • Barack Obama hit a home run with his keynote speech. I can see why the Democrats have such high hopes for this guy. For the leftist hundred-percenter he is, he really knows how to project an effective veneer of false moderation. At various points, I realized that he probably could have given almost the same speech-with a few edits-at the Republican convention. More on this man later.
  • Someone at the Kerry campaign has to put that Teresa woman in a straitjacket. She is the Kerry campaign's second worst liability.
