Just as the recent trials on the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act have highlighted this grisly procedure and the pain of unborn children, the National Right to Life Committee is mounting an effort to pass legislation that would require that women seeking abortions be informed of the pain experienced by unborn children and given the option to choose anesthesia for the child.

The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act would only affect those abortions done 20 weeks after fertilization, since this is commonly recognized in the medical community as a benchmark for the ability to feel pain. The bill does not deny, however, that unborn children can feel pain before this time.

The bill??¢â???¬â???¢s findings section points out that the government has demonstrated an interest in reducing the pain of sentient creatures with regulations on the use of laboratory animals and the slaughter of livestock.
