Regnery Publishing (a HUMAN EVENTS sister company) confirmed it is publishing the long-awaited autobiography of William F. Buckley Jr., titled Miles Gone By. The announcement came on the heels of Buckley's own announcement he is turning over ownership of his highly regarded magazine, National Review, to a board of trustees. (See related story here.)

"I cannot imagine any reader not gaining enormous pleasure from Miles Gone By," noted Marji Ross, President and Publisher of Regnery Publishing. "It is a landmark event in Bill's career as a writer," continued Ross, "and for us as his publisher. But most of all it is a treat for every admirer of Buckley the man, Buckley the controversialist, Buckley the bon vivant, Buckley the sportsman, and Buckley the writer."

In a move that will raise more than one conservative eyebrow, the book comes with a CD featuring dozens of excerpts read by Buckley himself, each vignette introduced by Buckley's friend and sailing buddy, Walter Cronkite.

The official publication date of Miles Gone By is July 12, although Amazon.com has already put it on sale, and it has made its way to some bookstore shelves in advance of the official release date.
